With the right choice of pneumatic couplings, compressed air systems can work safely and efficiently. Whether in the food industry, within recycling processes or for sorting very small parts in the pharmaceutical industry: pneumatic systems are used in a variety of ways. In addition to various pneumatic valves, suitable pneumatic cylinders and pneumatic fittings, couplings are key elements in ensuring safe operation. The functionality of pneumatic couplings is always the same.
Functionality and areas of application of compressed air coupling
The air required for the work process is achieved by connecting the coupling sleeve and coupling plug. Different systems can be used here. In most cases, a sliding sleeve on the coupling sleeve is moved axially to release the coupling process of the plug via an unlocking mechanism. The spring-loaded sliding sleeve moves to its initial position and locks the nipple, which is positively engaged in the end position, via small balls. Sealing within the coupling is usually achieved via an internal elastomer seal.
Safety in compressed air technology
To minimise the safety risk in compressed air-operated systems, it is advisable to use safety couplings. They make it possible to change connections quickly and easily but offer a higher level of safety as they control the compressed air flow better. This protects technicians from the risk of injury and the systems from damage
